Cabrillo's calm cove to the downtown waterfront — all on the bike path.
This route hugs the coast the whole way, riding (or walking) the Shoreline Pedestrian Bikeway from the sheltered sand of Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro, across the Queensway Bay shoreline, past the Queen Mary, the lighthouse, and the lagoon, and finishes at the Long Beach waterfront at Shoreline Village and the Pike. Roughly 7 miles, almost entirely on Class I separated path or wide promenade — flat, ocean-side, and uninterrupted.

"Begin on the inner cove side, where the breakwater turns ocean swell into a child-safe lagoon. Find the bathhouse with the red tile roof."
"Follow the bike path north along the harbor's edge until you reach the sportfishing docks. Look for the white-hulled charter boats lined up like piano keys."
"Continue north on the harbor bike path until you can't miss her — 887 feet of grey steel tied to Berth 87. Find the bow and look up at the gold leaf seal."
"Just past the Iowa, look east. The green suspension bridge soaring over the main channel is your visual landmark — find the best vantage from the waterfront promenade."
"Cross the Queensway Bridge (full bike/pedestrian path on the south side) and descend to the lagoon. The 1,019-foot Art Deco ocean liner is unmistakable. Find the three red-and-black funnels."
"From the Queen Mary, recross the bridge to the north shore and follow the bike path east into Shoreline Aquatic Park. Find the white triangular lighthouse on its own little promontory."
"Continue east along the marina path. Find the cluster of pastel Cape Cod–style shops over the water, with the antique carousel inside."
"Follow the wide pedestrian bridge over the lagoon back toward downtown. Find the wave-shaped blue glass building — the largest aquarium on the West Coast."
"Finish where the path meets Pine Avenue. Find the giant Ferris wheel — it stands where Long Beach's original 1902 amusement park, the Pike, once ran a wooden roller coaster called the Cyclone Racer."
